DEEPCHARTS / INDICATOR HELP

Bar POC - Bid / Ask

Marks each bar’s highest-total-volume price and shows whether Bid or Ask dominates at that level.

Setup

The indicator is available as a shared desktop package through my Deepcharts developer profile.

  1. Open the Deepcharts developer profile and join it to access the package.
  2. Load the Bar POC - Bid / Ask package through Shared and add the indicator in the main price panel.
  3. After a local DLL update, run Rebuild Chart, reopen the settings, change them and save again.
  4. Start without trade-size filters. Then set the desired filters and display options and check data availability.

POC & Bid/Ask dominance

The POC is the price level with the bar’s highest total volume. Ties select the lower price. Bid and Ask are compared at that one level: Ask > Bid is green (+1), Bid > Ask red (-1), a tie grey (0). Delta = Ask - Bid.

These are not two separate Bid and Ask POCs. Unclassified trades contribute total volume but neither Bid nor Ask. Total volume can therefore exceed Bid + Ask.

The chart supplies the instrument, bar settings and available history. Missing or inconsistent profiles produce no valid POC; there is no native-POC fallback.

Volume filters

Filters and defaults
SettingDefaultMeaning
Minimum / maximum trade size0 / 0Filters individual trades; maximum 0 means unlimited. Boundaries are inclusive.
Minimum POC total volume0Minimum total volume at the selected POC.
Statistical filterOptional: N=20, multiplier=1Mean + multiplier × population standard deviation of the previous N data-ready positive raw POC volumes. Excludes the current bar.
Use manual RTH thresholdOffThe RTH minimum replaces the general minimum inside the manual window.
RTH Start / End00:00 / 00:00Exchange time; start inclusive, end exclusive. Equal times mean all day.

Data availability & exchange time

Trade-size filters use individual historical and live trades. All observed tick volume, including excluded trades, must exactly match bar volume. Missing delivery or a mismatch gives Data Ready = 0 without falling back to unfiltered values.

If all trades are excluded, Data Ready may be 1 while POC Valid is 0. The statistical filter requires N previous samples; it can also suppress POC validity during warmup.

RTH uses the bar’s exchange timestamp, not segmentation of trades within the bar. Overnight windows are supported. Market hours, calendars and daylight-saving time are not inferred automatically. The statistical filter applies additionally inside and outside the RTH window.

Display & extensions

The rectangle spans one bar horizontally and one tick around the POC vertically. Defaults: rectangle on, border width 2, background off, opacity 70%. Bid is red, Ask green, neutral grey. Extensions, reset, shadow mode, hiding and duration display default off.

Only accepted closed-bar POCs start extensions. Later closed bars advance them. The source bar cannot trigger its own breakout.

  • Default mode: if the source close is at or above POC, a later close strictly below POC minus margin stops the line. If the source close is below POC, a later close strictly above POC plus margin stops it. Equality does not break.
  • Shadow mode stops when a later closed bar’s range intersects the inclusive POC ± margin band.
  • Max bars = 0 is unlimited within retention. A positive value stops at source index + Max bars.
  • Reset uses the exchange calendar date, not a trading-session day.
  • Hide removes the line and duration label on close/shadow breakout but retains the source rectangle. Expiry and day reset retain the ended line.
  • Duration counts target-chart bars since the source, not elapsed time.
  • For invisible calculation, hide rectangles, lines and duration. Keep Extend closed-bar POC enabled if active-extension outputs are required.

Chart information

POC rectangles, extension lines and duration labels are drawn over the price candles.

In Display > Chart information, normal chart information and debug details can be enabled independently. Both are off by default. Normal information shows Bar POC and the bar settings; debug adds data status. Position, font size and text color are adjustable.

History & retention

Drawing and extension-state retention defaults to 3 exchange calendar days and a maximum of 2,000 POC entries. This limits display, not Days to load. The chart controls available data history.

Removing drawings also removes their active extension state. Later breakouts and retention do not rewrite historical numerical values.

Numerical outputs

All 13 named series remain numerically readable, with transparent lines by default. Read price, volume, delta and dominance only with POC Valid = 1. Invalid POCs return 0 for these values. A genuine zero or neutral dominance can be correct for a valid POC.

  • Use Latest Active values only with POC Active = 1. With extensions disabled, activity outputs are 0; per-bar POC outputs remain usable.
  • An invalid current-bar POC does not exclude existing active extensions.
  • Use the subgraph IDs from chart settings, not the positions of the series in this list.

Usage

This page describes the calculation, filtering and extension rules. When comparing other Bar POC indicators, check their price selection, filters and stopping rules. No orders are placed or managed.
