DEEPCHARTS / INDICATOR HELP

SQB - Sequential Bias Buy / Sell Areas

Buy and Sell Areas from confirmed structure breaks, optionally using different bar settings from the displayed chart.

Shared desktop package

Desktop package. Access through the Deepcharts developer profile.

Setup & updates

  1. Open the Deepcharts developer profile and join it to access the shared package.
  2. Select Sequential Bias - Buy / Sell Areas in the main price panel in Deepcharts.
  3. After a local DLL update, run Rebuild Chart, reopen the settings, change them and save again.
  4. Start with the displayed chart’s bar settings. Use separate source bars only when areas should be calculated from bars with different settings.

How areas form

SQB calculates structure from closed candles. A strict close above a completed movement high initially establishes Long; below a movement low establishes Short. Dojis retain the movement direction. No area forms without a confirmed break and a suitable opposing candle.

A Buy Area starts at the last bearish candle before confirmation. A Sell Area starts at the last bullish candle. The confirming candle is excluded from its own area’s prices. Prices freeze at confirmation.

  • A Buy Area breaks only on a close strictly below its lower boundary. A Sell Area breaks only on a close strictly above its upper boundary.
  • A wick touch or a close exactly on the boundary does not break an area.
  • Following protection-side wicks can only lower the Buy Low or raise the Sell High.
  • By default, only the latest active Buy and Sell Area extend. Enable Extend unbroken areas to keep older surviving areas extending too. Broken and frozen replaced areas are separate history.
  • Calculation uses loaded history and does not reset automatically each day.

Rules & display

Under Display > Areas and history, labels and forward space come first, followed by unbroken and broken areas. Keep replaced areas and Maximum replaced areas are the final two settings in the group.

Extend older unbroken areas

Enable Extend unbroken areas and choose the count per direction. A value of 3 extends up to three Buy and three Sell Areas, including the newest of each. Original price boundaries stay fixed. Keep replaced areas does not need to be enabled.

Each area survives until a close crosses its own protection boundary: below the Buy Low or above the Sell High. With separate source bars, only their confirmed closes count. Wicks and closes exactly on a boundary do not break an area.

If a newer area breaks, an older survivor from loaded history may return to the latest N. Areas outside the selection do not extend. Keep replaced areas can retain a frozen copy instead. When an area returns, its extending rectangle replaces that copy.

When an extending area breaks, Keep broken areas decides whether it disappears or freezes at that break. Already frozen replaced areas remain static history. The extension count and the caps for broken and replaced history are independent.

This option changes drawings only. Bias, Buy Active, Sell Active and their price outputs still describe the latest active structural areas. An older visible survivor does not become the new structural protection.

Using different source bars

For time-based charts, the timeframe (called Resolution in the Deepcharts API) determines each bar’s duration. Range and tick charts instead use a bar type and size. Separate source bars let you calculate areas using different bar settings from the displayed chart.

Example: 60 Range areas on a 40 Range chart of the same instrument. Enable Use source resolution, select Source bar type = Range, Source size = 60 and Source history (days) = 30. Reverse (ticks) applies only to Vol Bars and Point & Figure.

Only closed source bars confirm, replace or invalidate areas. Target-chart prices and wicks do not affect these rules. Forward display space still uses target-chart bars.

The final source bar without a successor is excluded. Missing source data does not fall back to target candles. A second open chart is not required. Use the same instrument, feed, session and history when comparing charts.

Chart information & troubleshooting

Display contains Areas and history and Chart information. Show chart information displays the name with the bar type and size used for calculation; Show debug information independently displays status, bar counts and time gates. When areas are missing, use it to distinguish missing data from structure that is not yet confirmed.

Numerical outputs

Other indicators can read eight named series. Use Buy prices only with Data Ready = 1 and Buy Active = 1; Sell prices require Data Ready = 1 and Sell Active = 1. Inactive boundaries are 0. Transparent styling preserves readable values. Retained historical drawings do not change active values. Older areas extended by the survivor option do not change these values either.

  • Use the subgraph IDs from chart settings, not the positions of the series in this list.
  • Bias describes structure, not an automatic trade signal. Open bars carry the latest confirmed state; a closed source bar can update it.
